Seattle Center Mosaic Mural by Paul Horiouchi and Jack Carr

Marilyn Carr - Artist

I have been inspired and intrigued with art all my life.

My father, Jack Carr, was an encouraging influence and introduced me to local renowned artists in their studio settings. In 1962 my father collaborated with Seattle's famed artist Paul Horiouchi and constructed the Seattle Center's Friendship Mall Mosaic Mural. This huge Italian glass mosaic is the stage backdrop located under the Space Needle. I am thrilled by this legacy everytime I see it and think of the millions of people that have enjoyed this spectacular piece of art.

My formal education started at age 8 in the prodigy program at the University of Washington. I can still vividly remember enjoying the trance like feeling sitting on the lawn drawing

the beautifully detailed Gothic buildings on campus.

In high school I was fortunate to have been taught by internationally acclaimed Northwest artist Bill Holm where I learned that painting to Native American drumming is very empowering.

Fortunately my entrepreneurial life has allowed me to travel the globe and express my creativity through various design careers.

I have learned more about art from my son, Rob Carr, my artist friends, and my hundreds of wonderful students, and for this I am grateful.

Marilyn Carr is currently teaching water media and collage workshops, classes and retreats..
